Description Cultural Notes Plant Care
Stokesia laevis 'Stokes Aster' (Stokes Aster, cornflower aster). Native to the conifer woods on moist, acidic soil in the Southeastern U.S., the foliage is evergreen and smooth. The long lasting, colorful, fringed, conrnflower-like flowerheads start blooming June-July, and continue until October if kept deadheaded. Appreciate a winter mulch in areas with cold winter. Good cut flowers. Best grown in average to rich, sandy, moist, but well-drained, acidic soil in full sun to partial shade. Attracts butterflies to the garden. Use in cottage gardens, perennial borders and containers. A reliable, old garden favorite!
