Description Plant Care
Phlox paniculata 'Bright Eyes' (Garden Phlox). Fragrant, salmon-pink flower clusters with a darker ruby eye, on large 7" flower heads, bloom mid-summer through early fall. Needs good air circulation. Avoid overhead watering, though this dark green foliage is highly resistant to mildew. Thinning out some stems at the base early in the season, will provide better air circulation and bigger blooms on the remaining stems. Prefers moderately fertile, medium wet, well-drained soil. Appreciates a summer mulch to keep the root zone cool. Full sun to light shade. Attracts hummingbirds, butterflies and birds. Excellent cut flower. When tidying your garden, cut off only the top third of the spent bloom
panicle, and new smaller blossoms will burst from the side buds. Remove old growth at ground level after killing frost or before new growth emerges in spring.
