Description Cultural Notes Plant Care
Perovskia atriplicifolia 'Little Spire' (Russian Sage Little Spire). A shorter version of our beloved Russian Sage called Little Spire! Instead of reaching 4 feet in height this variety only reaches 2 feet in height. Russian Sage Little Spire is a perfect addition for any cottage gardener who has little space. It still has the traditional panicles of lavender-blue tubular flowers that spike up from the aromatic gray-green foliage. Interestingly enough Russian Sage is not native to Russia, but to Central Asia. Its genus Perovskia was named in 1840 in honor of B.A. Perovski Turkestani governor of the Russian province of Orenburg. Its long history is no surprise since this plant offers such excellent features. Once this plant is established it is considered drought tolerant. It has been classified as deer/ rabbit resistant and even a good choice for firescaping for those who are at risk for wild fires. It can take very hot and sunny locations of your landscape where nothing else you have tried can withstand such harsh conditions. It is a bee and butterfly attractant. Use in fresh/dried cut flower arrangements, single specimen or border in landscape, or in containers.
