Description Plant Care
Miscanthus giganteus 'Giant Miscanthus' (Giant Miscanthus). Wow! Magnificent upright clumps of wide, pendant green leaves. Flower stalks rise above cascading blades, with light pink new flowers maturing to silver. Sterile, non-invasive, and a slow spreader. A big, bold statement in any garden, or useful as a screen. Lower leaves have a tendency to wither in late summer, so planting something tall in front is recommended. Plants enjoy moisture, and are even happy growing beside water, however they also tolerate moderate drought conditions when established. Trim back to the ground in early spring - power hedge trimmers make this an easier job. Interestingly, this plant is becoming widely planted as a source of biomass or biofuel. Sold here as a giant rooted plug (different than our other plants), this will take at least 3 years to reach mature size, but well worth the wait!
