Description Cultural Notes Plant Care
Lycium barbarum. The foliage is bright silver, the flowers lavender, and the self-fertile fruit is a orange-red. Plants are very cold tolerant and can survive temperatures as low as -15F. The leaves and roots are extremely high in nutrients. Mature plants have good drought tolerance, however irrigation will increase yields.

Historically, the plant has been harvested for thousands of years in Asia, particularly in China and Tibet. The berries are said to help repair muscles and tendons, and provide protection from illnesses.

The goji berry has been praised in Chinese literature, particularly by the poet Liu Juncy from the Tan dynasty. In a poem, he writes that the "water surrounding goji berry shrubs may promote longevity."
