Description Cultural Notes Plant Care
Festuca glauca 'Elijah Blue' (Blue Fescue). A cool season, evergreen, ornamental garden species of fescue. Silvery-blue foliage forms a small, dense mound of spiky tufts of fine foliage. Combines handsomely with other silvers, darkest greens and even purples! Flower spikes May through June, reach a foot above the foliage. Good focal point in small areas as specimen plant. Prefers loose, well-draining soil. Full sun to part shade. Does well in cool, coastal areas, and prefers Northern climates. Can look good in the South, if it has afternoon shade. Considered drought and heat tolerant, as well as deer resistant. Spring cleaning should be limited to raking out and removing any brown foliage. Most effective along borders, edges to beds and walks, salt tolerant. Keep mulch away from the base of the plant.
