Echinacea purpurea 'Magnus' (Eastern Purple Coneflower Magnus, Kansas snakeroot). 1998 PPA Perennial Plant of the Year! Stunning rose-pink petals on enormous flowers up to 6-7" across. Petals are non-drooping compared to the species plant. A favorite for the back of the perennial border and beautiful in fresh arrangements. An exceptionally hardy perennial that is low maintenance, as well as heat and drought tolerant. Grow in full sun in average, well-drained soil. Will tolerate partial shade if given four hours of sun, including the noon hour. Allow two seasons for this plant to reach full maturity. Blooms July through September if kept deadheaded. Plant in groups (five or more plants) 1-2 feet apart. Flowers attract butterflies to the garden and later, seedheads provide winter interest in the garden and attract migrating birds, especially goldfinches. Native to the central and eastern United States.
