Description Cultural Notes Plant Care
Buddleia davidii 'Nanho Blue' (Butterfly Bush, summer lilac). 'Nanho Blue' is a semi-dwarf central Chinese subspecies of the common Butterfly Bush, Buddleia davidii nanhoensis. Upright growing. shrub that produces long, 10" long, honey-scented, lilac-blue flower spikes over silvery foliage. An excellent, long lasting cut flower. In cooler hardiness zones, buddleias die back to the ground each year, sending up a dense group of new shoots, in late spring that quickly develop as the weather warms. Remove all dead, damaged or weak growth. Left unpruned it can get very leggy so prune hard back every spring just before the plant comes into growth. Although this seems drastic, it will still flower the same year. Lightly scented, buddleias are very attractive to butterflies and hummingbirds! They prefer full sun in well-drained soil, and are considered deer-resistant once established.
