The Veronica looks like the original cottage garden plant. Adds a pleasing vertical form of 2-3' when in flower. Luxurious deep green, wrinkled foliage. Spikes of dark, violet-blue flowers appear in late May, and bloom on and off until frost if kept deadheaded. Good cut flowers.

Requires minimal maintenance. Used in borders, cottage gardens and container plantings. Full sun, to very light shade, in well-drained, average garden soil.

In fact, well-drained is the key to success when growing Veronica. Cut back hard to basal foliage after the Veronica has completed its bloom cycle in the fall. Add a layer of mulch for winter protection. Veronica is great for the first time gardener, is deer resistant when mature, and will attract butterflies to the garden.
