A warm-season, clumping, native prairie grass with striking, metallic-blue foliage, turning purple in fall. Upright, arching fountain-like shape. Creates tall seas of waving amber hues when planted in drifts. Upright, brick red flowers with yellow anthers appear in August. Full sun for maximum performance, but tolerates part shade. Prefers moist soil; tolerates gravely, dry or poor soils. Seedheads provide food for birds in winter. Butterflies are attracted to the foliage.
