Clump-forming succulent, sporting purple leaves, that begin as blue-green in spring, changing to a purple-burgundy color as the season progesses. Round cymes of rose-pink, star-shaped flowers, blooming late summer to early fall. Perfers full sun in any well-drained soil. Not a heavy feeder, but appreciates a nitrogen boost in spring and a side dress with compost or manure. Use as a groundcover, in rock gardens and in containers. Attracts pollinators and butterflies to the garden!
Indoors or in greenhouse, grow tender species in a mix of 3 parts soil-based potting mix, 2 parts grit, and 1 part leaf mold, in full light, with good ventilation.
In the growing season, water moderately and apply a half-strength, balanced liquid fertilizer every month.
Water sparingly in winter.
Outdoors, grow in moderately fertile, well-drained, neutral to slightly alkaline soil in full sun.
