Salvia nemorosa 'May Night' (Meadow Sage). 1997 PPA Perennial Plant of the Year! A beautiful ornamental, grown for the summer show of long lasting, indigo, violet-blue flowers. Kept deadheaded, it will often rebloom in the fall. A compact grower, it is an excellent choice for the summer border or for mass-planting. A good cut flower and useful for container gardens. Showy and easy to grow, like most Salvias, it prefers a location in full sun and well-drained, ordinary, garden soil. It is considered drought tolerant once established, and deer and rabbit resistant. Can be clipped back hard after blooming to rejuvenate the foliage. Also tolerates heat and humidity, but will not survive wet soil in winter. In northern areas provide winter protection. Attractive to butterflies and hummingbirds!
