The subtly contrasting hues of this extremely long-blooming, strong-stemmed salvia set it apart from other varities. In early summer, rich indigo-purple flowers rise 24-30" on purple-black stems above aromatic green foliage. Keep dead-headed for the continuous bloom. Easily grown in full sun, and especially in moist soil which has excellent drainage. Provide some afternoon shade in Southern gardens. Divide to restore plant, every 3-4 years. 'Cardonna' is improved for heat and humidity tolerance, and is considered evergreen is warmer zones. Attracts hummingbirds, butterflies and pollinators. Considered drought tolerant and deer resistant once established. Provides beautiful cut flowers, and is excellent for container gardening.
