Description Plant Care

Phlox paniculata 'Laura' (Garden Phlox). This is a delightful and durable addition to the perennial border. Topping the three foot stalks in early June, are lightly fragrant clusters of purple-violet flowers 5-6" wide, and with a dependable long bloom period. Each of the large flowers has a white blush towards the eye, which makes them more visible from a distance, and adds extra sparkle in the garden. Very mildew resistant, and bred to be disease resistant, this perennial is untroubled by pests. Plant about 18-20" apart to provide good air circulation, and prevent mildew, in rich, well-drained soil in full sun or light shade. Thinning out some stems at the base early in the season, will also help, and you will have bigger blooms on the remaining stems. When tidying your garden, cut off only the top third of the spent bloom
panicle, and new smaller blossoms will burst from the side buds. Makes an excellent cut flower and is considered deer resistant when mature.
