The boldest textured, upright, fountain grass, with bronze-burgundy, ribbon-like foliage, and large, maroon, foxtail-like flowers. A tender perennial (annual in zones 4-8) but a rapid grower that blooms continuously. Use in combination with other grasses or in front of taller shrubs for a marvelous contrast in color and texture. Plant light or bright colored flowers in front. Prefers well-draining soil and regular watering, in full to partial sun. A warm season grass with a a more tropical look than Pennisetum 'Rubrum'. Plant 'Burgundy Giant' in a protected area because this grass is very tender to frost, and also to avoid wind, which tears the leaves. Leave foliage and flowers for winter effect, cut back in early spring near ground.
