Pennisetum alopecuroides Moudry
Slightly wider foliage with a glossy, dark green appearance. It forms a small, neat mound and is a very attractive addition to a garden. Performs best in regions with cooler summers.
Seed heads emerge in September and are dark purple at the edges, black in the center, becoming lighter and fluffier by autumn. Prefers well-draining soil. Full sun to light shade. Also grows well in moist locations such as peripheries of water gardens, ponds or streams.
A great scale for small gardens, or the foreground of a tall grass border. Excellent for use in container gardens. Since it can handle some shade, you might want to use it as a vertical accent in the hosta garden too. Yellow-pumpkin to straw colored foliage in fall. Attracts birds.
