One of the taller of the switch grasses. A strong-growing, glaucous blue-green foliage with an upright, somewhat vase-shaped habit. Will turn an attractive dark golden color in autumn. Clouds of airy, reddish-brown flower clusters August to November. This panicum usually maintains its elegant shape through tough winter months. Tolerates a wide range of soil, but perfers sandy loam in full to partial sun. Testing has recently been done to find the best plant for stabilizing slopes prone to erosion and panicums were found to be the best plant. Cut back in early spring to promote a new flush of growth.
