Miscanthus sinensis Sarabande
Among the finest of all the miscanthus varieties! Upright and arching form. Very narrow, dark green foliage with silvery margins. Golden-copper colored seed heads in August. An excellent alternative to Gracillimus for the Appalachian region, as it does not tend to reseed. Prefers moist, well-drained soil, but tolerant of a wide range of soils, heat and humidity. Foliage should be left standing throughout the winter for visul interest and to provide protection for the crowns. Cut to the ground in late winter just before new shoots appear. Prefers full sun to bright shade, and is considered deer resistant when mature. The variegated leaf blades have an olive cast that harmonizes nicely with silver and gray-foliaged plants.
