Miscanthus sinensis Purpurascens Autumn Red
An excellent, compact, upright grass for providing brilliant, red-orange fall foliage. Moderate to fast growth. Sometimes referred to as Flame Grass for its fall colorings. White blooms appear July-August. A great miscanthus selection for northern climates. Does not perform well without a winter chill. Earlier to bloom than most miscanthus. Prefers moist, well-draining soil, but will grow in a variety of soil in full sun to light shade. Moderate to fast grower, forming large clumps.
An important consideration when growing Flame Grass is to make sure that it receives ample moisture. This is especially true in hot, dry locations.
