Fargesia murieliae 'Umbrella Bamboo' (Umbrella Bamboo). Umbrella Bamboo is a clumping bamboo that originates in the Himalayas whose form is just as the name suggests. As each year passes the green culms (stems) become more branched creating a weeping effect as if an umbrella. The leaves will turn yellow in the fall giving great autumn color. This bamboo is a fast grower, but not invasive. It can be used as a screen or a single specimen. Sold as a giant rooted plug (different than our other plants), this will take at least 3 years to reach mature size, but well worth the wait!
Fargesias form new canes in late summer that don't develop leaves until the following spring - do not cut these back, as they are important to the plant's growth. Propagation in mid-spring is easy, as long as the transplants stay continually moist until established.
Average water needs; water regularly; well-drained soil
