Umbrella Sedge is a versatile plant with many possibilities. Its origin is believed to be the bogs and lake/river banks in Madagascar. It has a clumping growth habit with palm-like leaves and an overall vertical appearance. The flowers are tiny green clusters that bloom continuously. This is an excellent way to achieve a tropical look in your landscape. It has the ability to tolerate diverse conditions such as very wet or somewhat dry. This presents the opportunity to use it in a water garden as an accent plant on a pond edge, in a perennial border, or use in containers.
Indoors, grow in soil-based potting mix in bright filtered light.
Stand containers in shallow trays of water to ensure ample moisture and high humidity at all times.
In summer, apply a balanced liquid fertilizer monthly.
Outdoors, grow in large loam-filled containers with a layer of gravel on top, sunken in the shallow area of a pond.
Prefers bright light in winter.
