This begonia called Iron Cross was brought to England from Singapore in 1952 by Maurice Mason. His last name is where the species name comes from. Its true origin is either China or India. It has fuzzy textured/puckered leaves with serrated margins. The background is a lime green color with a dark burgundy medieval shield cross design in the middle. While this plant is not very cold hardy there are steps you can take to better your chances of it returning the next year. Mulch properly and allow the foliage that has died back to remain; this helps insulate the plant protecting it from cold temperatures. Use as a bedding plant, in a container, or as a houseplant.
