A woody-stemmed perennial which produces whorls of tiny, tube-shaped raspberry flowers closely packed on stiff, purple stems. Leaves are serrated and pleasanty lemon-scented. Long, late summer bloom (July-October), sometimes extending to first frost. Tolerates summer heat and humidity. Grow in average, medium wet, well-drained soil in full sun to part shade. Plant in a well-protected, southern or southeastern exposure and provide a good winter mulch. Otherwise, grow as an annual in zones colder that Z6. Attracts birds (goldfinches)and butterflies, as well as hummingbirds! Suitable for gardens in the Coastal South, and an excellent choice for container gardening!
