A woody-stemmed perennial which produces whorls of tiny, tube-shaped raspberry flowers closely packed on stiff, purple stems. Leaves are serrated and pleasanty lemon-scented. Long, late summer bloom (July-October), sometimes extending to first frost. Tolerates summer heat and humidity. Grow in average, well-drained soil in full sun. Plant in a well-protected, southern or southeastern exposure and provide a good winter mulch. Otherwise, grow as an annual in zones colder that Z6. Attracts birds (goldfinches)and butterflies, as well as hummingbirds!
Soil: Grow in well drained, fertile soil.
Watering: Regular watering is needed for establishment, then quite drought tolerant.
Fertilizing: Feed generously before and during the growing season.
